Tensions mount high in Kismayo town, militants flee

KISMAYO, Somalia (Keydmedia) – Tensions of fighting are reportedly rose in Somalia’s southern seaside town of Kismayo as Somali troops backing by Kenya army moved towards the city, a main Al shabab stronghold, Keydmedia reports.

Residents said Senior Al Shabaab leaders in the town begun early on Tuesday to flee into bush to escape the offensive by Somali and Kenyan forces that are massing locations near the town in the past two days.

Reliable sources told Keydmedia Somali in the region that Sheikh Mukhtar Robow abu Mansur who was Al Shabaab’s former spokesperson, Ibrahim Haji Me’ad (better known Ibrahim Afghan) who is Al Shabaab’s deputy commander and Sheikh Hassan Yacqub, the commander of Kismayo were among the officials departed from Kismayo, 500 Km south of Mogadishu.

After Somali and AMISOM forces took over recently Afgoye town in the Lower Shabelle most of Al Shabaab’s foreign fighters have fled to Merka town and some have crossed into Yemen through Kismayo town.
