Tentative Calm Reported in Buhodle and Las’anod after Bloody battle

LAS’ANOD (Keydmedia) — The situation in Buuhodle and Las’anod towns in northern Somalia is reported stable on Monday after heavy fighting on sunday between the self-declared Somaliland and Khaatuma state forces, killing people, Keydmedia reports.

The fighting was intense as both sides that fought Sunday claimed victory over the combat according to Osman Abdillahi, the spokesman of Somaliland military said their forces were attacked and they retaliated inducing heavy casualties on the attacking force of Khaatuma state, he added they lost 2 soldiers on their side while 3 others were injured.

Similarly an official who talked on behalf of Khaatuma State said they were attacked by the Somaliland army but there were able to defend themselves. He mentioned that they incurred loses but they also induced loses on the Somaliland troops.

The newly declared Khaatumo state is near the border with Ethiopia and is a disputed area that Somaliland seized from Puntland in 2007. There are no [ceasefire] negotiations abputh the conflict going on right now.
