TFG forces clash with Al shabab in Beledweyne town

BALADWEYNE, Somalia (Keydmedia) – Heavy fighting between pro-government soldiers supporting by the invading Ethiopian troops and the Al Qaeda-aligned Al shabab militants flared up on Monday in Beledweyne town, central Somalia, Keydmedia reports.

Locals told Keydmedia via telephone that the battle which last for minutes broke out when the hardline Islamist militants of Al shabab have launched an organized mortar attack on an Ethiopian military base at Howlwadag village, west of Beledweyne town, the fourth largest city in Somalia.

“The two warring sides used with heavy weapons for minutes, but it is not yet confirmed how many people may have killed in the latest clashes in Baladweyne town this morning,” a witness told Keydmedia English News.  

Somali Transitional Federal Government forces along with Ethiopian allied forces had been controlling the city, some 206 miles (332 km) north of Mogadishu, since Al shabab rebels withdrew from the town several months ago.
