Three dead as Somali and Al shabab battle in Lower Jubba region

KISMAYO (Keydmedia) – At least three people killed and many more others were injured in a heavy battle between Somali forces along with Kenyan military and Al shabab fighters in several locations in Lower Jubba region of southern Somalia, Keydmedia reports.

According to witnesses in Badhdhe town who spoke with Keydmedia Somali Service by phone, confirmed that the fighting sparked early hours on Tuesday morning when Al shabab fighters attacked on joint Somali-Kenyan military bases on the outskirts of the town, killing three from the attacking militants.

The combat which blazed on for several hours effected locals, halting the movement of the people and vehicles using the town and its neighboring locations. No official from both warring sides [Somali and Al shabab], were unavailable for comments on the matter. 

2 February 2012, Badhadhe which lies near Kenyan border - some 180km (110 miles) south of port Kismayo town - fell to Somali and Kenyan troops after heavy fighting with Al shabab militants.
