KISMAYO, Somalia - Jubbaland forces have captured the head of Al-Shabaab's intelligence in the Lower Jubba region during an operation on the northern outskirt of Kismayo.
Aden Mohamed Dhakalow was wounded in the gunfight between the regional troops and the militants that led to the death of one extremist, according to military sources.
The Somali armed forces have recently launched massive operations in which they overpowered the group in part of the region – recovering weapons and other equipment. They also apprehended militants with their weapons mostly AK47 rifle guns.
Since losing much of the country, Al-Shabaab still controls large swathes of rural areas in the south and central Somalia and frequently conducting deadly attacks in the capital, Mogadishu.
The security of the country remains fragile as the presence of government forces normally doesn’t expand far beyond the main cities.
