Two children among six people wounded in Somalia car bombing

JOWHAR, Somalia - A car bomb explosion in Jowhar, an agricultural town that lies 90 kilometers north of Mogadishu, Somalia's capital wounded six civilians, including two children.

An explosion took place in the area known as Tododa Geed opposite the Noor Doob Hotel, which is close to the presidential palace of HirShabelle state which is protected by AU forces.

It is the second attack taking place on the same site since 17 July 2022, causing various casualties including death and injuries.

There was no immediate responsibility for the bombing, but Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the previous attack which killed over 10 people and wounded dozens, including two ministers.

Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda allied group in Somalia has intensified attacks in the Horn of Africa nation in an attempt to oust the UN-backed government in Mogadishu and expel the AU troops.

The new president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud promised to defeat the group and restore lasting peace in the country which is at war with Al-Shabaab for more than a decade.

Al-Shabaab which has nearly 10,000 fighters was ejected from Mogadishu in 2011 during a joint AU and Somali military offensive that flushed the group out of major towns around the capital.
