Two killed, 8 hurt in suicide attack in Somalia’s capital

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A police officer says at least two people were killed and eight others wounded in a suicide bomb blast in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Saturday noon.

Capt. Hassan Ahmed, a senior police officer confirmed to Keydmedia English Service by phone from the scene that the explosion occurred when a suicide bomber blew up himself at a busy security checkpoint.

Ahmed added that the bomber detonated his suicide vest at a fish market near the Ex-control security checkpoint, killing two civilians and injuring at least 8 others on the spot.

"We can confirm that the suicide bomb attack killed two people including a woman and wounded six others this midday," Ahmed said, adding that the target was the checkpoint but hit the market instead.

Eyewitnesses said the death toll could rise since the explosion was huge and there were many civilians around the place at the time of the attack that caused panic among the people in the junction.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the latest bomb attack in the capital, but the police pointed the finger of the blame at the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
