UN official visits Galmudug amid slow in Somalia’s election process

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The president of Galmudug state of Somalia Ahmed Abdi Karie [Qoor-Qoor] has received ay his office the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Anita Kiki Gbeho.

In a statement, the office of Gamudug president said both sides have discussed the current political situation in Somalia, security, and the ongoing election for Senate as well as the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The regional leader briefed the visiting the UN delegation on the latest gains made by the Somali national army [SNA] and Galmudug forces in the anti-al-Shabaab military operations in the Mudug region.

Anita Kiki Gbeho has lauded the efforts by Galmudug to liberate the region and preparations for the election as Qoor-Qoor is expected to release soon the list of the candidates vying for the Senate seats.

The UN delegation has previously visited Puntland to discuss election issues with Deni in Garowe and is expected to travel to other regional states - HirShabelle, Southwest, and Jubaland.

While in Dhusamareb, Anita called on the leader to ensure the women’s 30% representation in the parliament as the country goes to the polling stations with sitting president Farmajo seeking re-election in the Oct vote.
