Somalia’s international partners say they consider the summit in Mogadishu as a critical opportunity that must not be missed to advance peace and security in Somalia.
MOGADISHU, Somalia – The foreign diplomats in Mogadishu have issued a joint statement on Thursday to throw weight behind upcoming Somalia’s talks set to kick off next Saturday.
Somalia’s international partners say they consider the summit in Mogadishu as a critical opportunity that must not be missed to advance peace and security in Somalia.
They have urged the leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia and the Federal Member States to make constructive compromises to reach an agreement quickly on the poll deadlock.
“We commend PM Roble for convening the summit and look forward to his continued leadership in the electoral process, including electoral security,” reads the statement in part.
The statement lauded the regional leaders’ participation in the summit without preconditions.
The outgoing president Farmajo has failed to organize elections based on the 17 September Agreement after the latest talks failed, he moved to extend his term by two years illegally.
