MOGADISHU, Somalia – The US-trained Somalia’s elite forces [DANAB] defused a car-bomb north-west of the country’s capital, Mogadishu on Sunday, according to the military.
Following a tipoff from local residents, DANAB soldiers have seized explosive-laden vehicle during an operation in Ad-adey village on the outskirts of Afgoye town before being detonated in Mogadishu.

With the help of African Union peacekeepers [AMISOM], Somali government troops had managed to recover most of the lost territories in the Lower Shabelle region from the terrorist group, Al-Shabaab.
Although officials in Mogadishu say Al-Shabaab’s presence in the country has been largely eradicated, the group continues to carry out sporadic attacks in the capital and elsewhere in the nearby regions.
Before being pulled out last January, the U.S. military killed top Al-Shabaab leaders during the counter-terrorism operations in Somalia that helped the local forces and the AU make gains in the fight against the extremist group on the ground.
