The sea row case has damaged the diplomatic relations between the two East African countries after Kenya pushed for outside court resolution. 

On Monday night, Farmajo deployed hundreds of Haram’ad police to the main roads in Mogadishu in a bid to bar the PM from leaving the country to Kenya for an official visit on Uhuru’s invitation.

Kenya wants Somalia to withdraw the maritime boundary case from the ICJ and end the row outside the court.

Kenya and Somalia are at loggerheads over maritime boundary disputes which worsened relations between the two countries. 

The relations between the two countries have been at the lowest point for the past eight months after Farmajo cut off ties with Kenya in December 2020.

Kenya is one of the East Africa troop-contributing countries to AU mission in Somalia fighting Al-Shabaab since 2007.

The PM will be traveling to Kenya on Tuesday, August 9 for bilateral talks with Uhuru whose ties with Farmajo has strained last year over Jubaland interference.

Illegal fishing off the coast of Somalia has been exploited by high-ranking officials in the Farmajo-led government in Mogadishu. 

The former deputy Intelligence chief was accused of being responsible for the worst crimes committed against Somali citizens and members of NISA.

Kenya has sent troops to Somalia in 2011 to fight Al-Shabaab following a series of attacks and abductions on its soil. 

Acting on Farmajo directive, Somalia’s trade and fisheries ministers inked a trade balance pact with Ethiopian envoy to Somalia Abdifitah Abdullahi Hassan on Sunday in which the country exchanges fish with the drug.
