5 dead in a suicide bomb attack at Somali presidential palace

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Keydmedia) – More than five people have been killed and six others were wounded in a huge suicide car bomb attack at Somalia’s presidential palace in the heart of Mogadishu, security officials said on Wednesday.

The commander of the central investigation department CID, Abdullahi Hassan Barise, said the suicide blast went off around 1:00 a.m. local time inside a café, just few meters away from the office of Somali speaker Sharif Hassan Sheik Aden, near Villa Somalia.

“I can only confirm you that 6 people sustained wounds and two others were killed in the bomb attack, all civilians who have been sipping a tea inside the café near the presidential palace, we are investigating the incident and we will comment it later,” said Abdullahi Hassan Barise.

No group has yet said it carried out the attack, but it makes the first bomb blast to happen at Villa Somalia, the country’s presidential palace which is a heavily fortified compound in the heart of Mogadishu.
