MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali government forces and allied local clan militia took control of Al-Shabaab in the Masagaway area of ​​the Galgadaud region after a joint offensive on Sunday.

The Commander of the 27th Division of the military has confirmed that the combined forces moved into the area without encountering much resistance from the retreating militants.

He added that the residents have fled from their houses, fearing that they will be subjected to a reprisal by Al-Shabaab if they stay and welcome the government soldiers.
