In recent days, the operations on the border between Middle Shabelle and Galgaduud regions have been making gains with officials saying Al-Shabaab will no longer hold any area in Somalia.
MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali government forces and allied local clan militia took control of Al-Shabaab in the Masagaway area of the Galgadaud region after a joint offensive on Sunday.
The Commander of the 27th Division of the military has confirmed that the combined forces moved into the area without encountering much resistance from the retreating militants.
He added that the residents have fled from their houses, fearing that they will be subjected to a reprisal by Al-Shabaab if they stay and welcome the government soldiers.

Al-Shabaab lost its grip on major parties of the country with the government claiming it regained over 100 villages in the past three months and killed hundreds of Al-Shabaab members in the offensive.
