MOGADISHU, Somalia - The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called on the International partners to provide meaningful support to his government to realize the national priorities.
On Wednesday, Mohamud made the call as he hosted a meeting with the ambassadors of the US, UK, Italy, Ethiopia, and the envoys of the UN, the EU, and the AU at Villa Somalia in Mogadishu.
The president told the foreign diplomats that the government dared to launch a Somali-led offensive against Al-Shabaab last year and the move has yielded fruits that need to be maintained.
Already the army operation involving local clan militias saw the liberation of dozens of villages and key towns in Hiran, Galgadud, and Middle Shabelle regions from Al-Shabaab within three months.
The president noted how selfless the Somali forces with the help of the local people liberated many areas in the Middle Shabelle, Hiraan and Galgudud regions, which shows the commitment of the government to get rid of the terrorism," said Mohamud.
The President said that the people and the Somali government are united today for the liberation of the country, and he urged the representatives of the international community to help in this struggle, especially the campaign to lift the arms embargo on Somalia which is important in the war against terrorism.
For their part, the diplomats praised the operations and indicated that they stand by the people and the government of Somalia, especially the aid needed by the people in the liberated areas.
