Death toll from Las’anod unrest rises as Somaliland troops use excessive force

LAS'ANOD, Somalia - The situation in Las'anood city is still tense, and there are ongoing clashes between protesters and the Somaliland security forces who are using live bullets against the people.

As of today, at least two people have been killed and several sustained wounds, who were participating in the demonstration demanding the withdrawal of the Somaliland troops from the northern city.

The Human rights organizations in the country said Somaliland is committing crimes against humanity in Lasan after more than 20 civilians were shot dead in the city in one week, including children.

The unrest in Sool regional capital started last week after continuous killings targeting prominent people, including religious leaders, academics, and local politicians by unknown assailants.

Somaliland authorities, including President Muse Bihi say the violence in Las'anod was orchestrated from outside the region, pointing the finger of the blame at the Federal Government of Somalia.
