Somali capital sees 2nd lockdown in a week

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The residents of the capital woke up to main roads closed with no public transport and heavy security forces' presence, the second public restriction in a week.

Some roads were not even allowed for walking. Fighting vehicles were on every corner of the streets around the presidential palace, where the President, PM, and speaker of the parliament reside.

The people have suffered a lot in the last 10 days due to the road closures by the government which failed in the security and avert the car bombs from the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group.

Security sources told Keydmedia Online, Somali president Hassan Sheikh was to give a speech to the troops trained in Eritrea who are stationed in one of the military camps in Mogadishu.

The government plans to deploy fresh soldiers to the battlefields and join the fight against Al-Shabaab in the south and central regions, mainly in Middle Shabelle, Galgadud and Hiran.
