Bihi promises “harsh” response if Somaliland attacked

HARGEISA, Somalia - The president of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi said on Tuesday that his administration is ready to find a solution to the crisis in that northern Lasanod city.

Bihi said that Somaliland is sufficient to solve the crisis arising from the city, where there have been continuing protests and clashes between the regional forces and angry demonstrators.

The President added that Somaliland will enforce the security in the city completely, and he will work with the intellectuals and elders to find a solution to the current crisis that left dozens dead.

Bihi said that most of the people who were killed in Lasanod in the past 15 years were Somaliland officials, saying that most of the murders have been arrested and will be arraigned in court.

Today we stand for peace and good neighbors, and we say that there are no plans for war," said Bihi, responding to Puntland president Said Seni who said they will use military power to regain Lasanod.

President Bihi accused the Somali government of being behind the unrest in Lasanod and said that Somaliland will defend its land if the 5 regional administrations of Somalia attack the city.

Bihi confirmed that three people died and nine were wounded in the Lasanod clashes. He warned Puntland and Somali government of interference in Somaliland's internal affairs.
