6 killed as Islamists, Government soldiers clash in Somalia

The fighting took place overnight many parts in south and north of Mogadishu when the insurgents attacked on positions manned by Somali and African Union forces, killing six, mostly local residents.

Residents at IDP camps at Ex-control Afgoye checkpoint and Hoosh Village told Keydmedia English News by phone that several mortars hit into their makeshift shelters as the fighting intensified for many hours.

There have been several clashes between Islamist group and the allied forces at Yaqshid district in northern Mogadishu, where inhabitants reported that at least five people, including innocent civilians after stray bullets and artillery fire had crossed into their houses.

Al-shabab and Somali government remained silence to comment about the combats in Mogadishu last night. Somali civilians have borne the brunt of two decades of conflict in their war-torn country.
