A parliamentary candidate shot dead in Somali capital

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Armed assailants have shot and killed Mohamed Hussein Sabriye known as Guleyste in Mogadishu's Wadajir District on Tuesday morning, residents and police said.

The slain elderly man was a local politician who competed for the Lower House seat [HOP#33], which was won by MP Yusuf Kabale. The gunmen fled from the crime scene after the murder.

Mogadishu has faced worsening security situation for the past months as Al-Shabaab stepped up car bomb attacks and killings in revenge for the army offensive against the group.
