Ali Dhere said that the group named National Committee for Drought, the committee chairman will be al-Shabaab’s head of the policy and regional administrations, Sheikh Hussein Ali Fidow, who will work closely all aid agencies want to assist drought affected Somalis.
The Spokesman of Al-Shabaab guerilla announced that both local and international aid agencies from now on can operate similarly in areas controlled by Al-shabab so as to help drought affected Somalis.
Alshabab rejected aid agencies to assist needed people in southern and central Somalia last year.
The relentless violence, compounded by drought, has forced more than 135,000 Somalis to flee so far this year. In June alone, 54,000 people fled across the two borders, three times the number of people who fled in May.
There are now more than 750,000 Somali refugees living in the region, mostly in neighbouring Kenya (405,000), Yemen (187,000) and Ethiopia (110,000). Another 1.46 million are displaced within Somalia.
