Al-shabab mortars kill 6 IDPs near Somali presidential palace

MUQDISHO,Somalia (Keydmedia) – At least six people, four from one family were killed and seven others wounded overnight after mortar shells slammed into an IDP camp near Somalia’s presidential palace, Villa Somalia in the chaotic Mogadishu.

Witnesses said Monday that several mortars hit the camp in Wardhiglay district as displaced families slept. a father, mother and two children were killed in one house. A further 7 people were wounded and were immediately taken to the hospitals by Mogadishu ambulance service.

A TFG official, who spoke to Keydmedia English News on condition of anonymity, said that there were at least ten mortar bombardments from hiding places in residential neighborhoods hit the compound; some which missed their target struck an IDP camp, just not far away from the palace.

No death was reported from the mortars hit in the Somalia palace so far.

Al-Shabab rebel group has claimed responsibility for the mortar attacks on its Twitter feed Monday, saying that the mortars had hit inside the presidential palace.
