Al-shabab quits final strongholds in Galgadud, central Somalia

EL-BUR, Somalia (Keydmedia) - Reports from Galgadud region of central Somalia say Monday that Al-Qaeda linked Al Shabab insurgents continue to depart from manay strategic towns after pro-government militia of Ahlu Suna Waljama’a backed by Ethiopian forces were reportedly advancing into the region.

Local residents in El-bur town told Keydmedia English News by phone that Hundreds of heavily armed Al Shabab fighters withdrew from town, which is just away 90km east of the region’s capital of Dhusamareb. El-bur is the second strategic base that Al Shabab vacates within hours this week.

Also The Al-Qaeda connected rebel group Al-shabab deserted from Mahas district in Hiran region on Sunday after their Somali and Ethiopian forces from Beledweyne town, 350 Km north of Mogadishu advanced towards the district.

On December 31, 2011, the Transitional Federal Government retook control of Beledweyne from the Al-Shabaab militants. Somali government soldiers and around 3,000 allied Ethiopian army troops attacked the city in the early morning, capturing it after hours of fighting. 

Around 20 people were killed in the battle, mainly consisting of Ethiopian soldiers and Al-Shabaab insurgents during the seizure of the town.
