Al-Shabab claimed to have killed dozens of Ethiopians, while Ali Asbaro,a senior Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a official, a pro-Somali government moderate group said it in turn killed more than three members of the militants.

The fighting lasted for more than three hours, but our correspondent in Mogadishu say it will be difficult to verify the exact number of Ethiopian forces during the battle.

Islamist militants have launched a suicide truck bomb attack on an Ethiopian military base in central Somalia for the past few months.

Ethiopian troops in south and central Somalia will be replaced by forces from Djibouti, Uganda and Burundi, according to AU Commissioner for Peace and Security Ramtane Lamamra.
