AMISOM, TFG soldiers battle Al-shabab militants in northern Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia (Keydmedia.net) - Heavy fighting with mortar shells between TFG soldiers backed by African Union peacekeepers and Al-shabab militants occurred on Wednesday in northern conflict-ravaged Somali capital, Mogadishu, resorts said.

Eye witnesses told Keydmedia that the battle broke out after heavily armed Al-shabab fighters have attacked on joint military positions belonging to pro-Somali government and AMISOM forces at Jamhuriyah village in Mogadishu’s Karan district, causing unconfirmed casualties civilians or soldiers.

“I reside near the Karan police station and two stray mortars came from Jamhuriyah, the battlefield where the clashes have been going on between rival sides.

I remained at door throughout the night until this morning because of the fierce fighting, a resident who declined to be identified told Keydmedia by phone.

Somali government soldiers along with AMISOM forces are struggling to retake control of Huriwa district and other villages in north of Banadir region which are still controlled by the insurgents.
