Covid-19 cases in Somalia in decline, says Health Ministry

MOGADISHU, Somalia -- There is a decline in the number of cases tested positive for Covid-19, according to a report issued by the Health Ministry who highlighted that no new cases were recorded in the capital Mogadishu over the past 48 hours.

But there are new cases nationwide reported with Somaliland and Puntland leading the highest rate of 11 and 5 respectively making the total 14, 594.

There are overwhelming recoveries among the Covid-19 patients since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country, said the Ministry.

The federal government has previously imposed restrictions to contain the virus ordering the closure of schools and universities for weeks.

The Mayor of Mogadishu has threatened to punish anyone who fails to abide by the laws making the wearing of facemasks mandatory in public.
