Tuesday’s attack is believed to be a retaliation after gunmen attacked Rhamu town on Sunday in the ongoing bloody rivalry between the Degodia and Garre clans.

Police say about 200 militiamen believed to be from Ethiopia, who were armed with heavy weapons, raided Guba trading centre Tuesday.

According to police who visited the area, the attackers burnt 20 houses, five shops and 15 manyattas and vandalised Guba Primary School and a dispensary, where they stole 15 solar panels and batteries.

North Eastern regional police commander Patrick Lumumba said no arrest has been made in connection with Tuesday’s attack as police were still concentrated in Rhamu after the Sunday attack.

“The attack was a retaliation of the earlier one but we are hunting the attackers,” said Mr Lumumba.

The death toll has risen to 10 since the first attack at the weekend.

More than 300 villagers have fled the clashes-hit areas and are camping at government buildings.
