The rebel insurgents of Al-shabab launched overnight hit-and-run attacks against the joint TFG and AMISOM military bases in Karan district of Banadir region, flaring up heavy exchange of gunfire and artilleries from both sides. The number of casualties was not yet known.
“After the fighting erupted mortars hit in villages beyond the battlefields, forcing many residents to begin a mass displacement from Karan district to nearby safe villages, a resident told Keydmedia English News by phone.
TFG military officials claimed victory over the battle, saying that government soldiers and their allies AU forces managed to repulse the attackers from the area and inflicted them heavy loss during the combat.
The fighting comes just a day after the spokesman of Al-shabab rebels for the military operations Sheik Abdiaziz Abu Musab told a pro-Al-Shabaab radio station in Elasha Biyaha, out of Mogadishu that the group is still in the capital and will continue their attacks and car bombs against TFG and AMISOM forces.
