KISMAYO, Somalia - The US-trained Somalia's DANAB commandos and the Jubaland regional forces carried out a joint operation in the village of Kamjaroon and the surrounding areas in the Lower Jubba region in the past 48 hours, military sources said.

The allied troops' operation destroyed key bases where Al-Shabaab used to train its fighters and orchestrate bomb and gun attacks against military camps in the province, bordering Kenya.

The soldiers succeeded in freeing the prisoners who were imprisoned in Kamjaroon village after completely taking control of the area, which lies about 50Kms north of Kismayo city.

Officials in Jubaland told the local media that the troops will continue the operations until all areas are removed from the members of the Al-Shabaab and restore peace and stability.
