Somali clerics, scholars: We are not consulted in the draft constitution

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Keydmedia) - a well-organized meeting held in Mogadishu with officials from cleric’s council of Somalia, scholars, elders and honorable members of the parliament, said the recently concluded constitution is not in line with Islamic values, Keydmedia reports.

The head of the cleric’s council of Somalia Sheik Bashir Ahmed Salad who talked at the meeting expressed his view on the much funded draft constitution that was recently announced its conclusion completely by Somalia PM.

“The constitution writing process did not follow Somalia’s interest due process and it did not involve different sections of the community. The process was spearheaded by foreign organizations and individuals who were also the financiers, not Somali people,” he added.

Also the other dignitaries, including scholars, University students and women at the gathering unanimously opposed the draft constitution, saying Somali people living all over the world were not consulted during the drafting of the constitution that is finally announced over by the government of Somalia.

Recent days, there are alarming increase of debates on the constitution after Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government announced it concluded the drafting of the constitution, the clerics council of Somalia said there are clauses in the constitution that is not in line with the Islamic principles.
