Somali Gov’t forces detain 5 Al shabab militants, including two foreigners

KISMAYU (Keydmedia) – Somalia government troops in the southern town of Baidoa have on Monday captured at least five Al shabab insurgents, including two Al Qaeda foreign operatives in the third largest city in Somalia , Keydmedia reports.

A government security official in Baidoa town, 256 Km North West of Mogadishu confirmed to Keydmedia English News by phone under anonymity that the TFG soldiers seized five Al shabab agents, among two foreign fighters with explosive devices at a house in the town.

According the officials the two foreigners whose national identity were no released and the other three Somalis are now being held at custody in Baidoa town which was recently retaken by Somali and Ethiopian forces from Al Qaeda-affiliated Al shabab rebels.

In separate incident, an explosion is reportedly rocked at a market which was used a remote-controlled landmine. No casualties were reported so far.

Baidoa is a city in south-central Somalia, situated 256 kilometers (159 mi) by road northwest of the capital Mogadishu. It is the capital of the Bay region. On February 22, 2012 Ethiopia and the TFG recaptured the town from the rebels with no much resistance and gunshot.

Baidoa is the third largest city in Somalia, and the fourth most important after the rebel-held port town of Kismayo, 500 Km away south of Mogadishu.
