Somali security forces seize explosives and detonators in Beledweyne

BELEDWEYE, Somalia (Keydmedia) – The security forces of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia on Wednesday said they had seized explosive devises and detonators in an operation they carried out in Beledweyne town, Keydmedia reports.

Ahmed Abdulle Inji, a TFG official in Hiiraan region, told reporters that the security forces arrested at least four people carrying explosives the were planning to detonate Somali army bases in Beledweyne town, some 206 miles (332 km) north of Mogadishu, Somali capital.

“These assailants are from elements of Al shabaab who have been smuggling explosive devices into the TFG controlled district of Beledweyne. They want to create insecurity in the town by carrying out suicide and car bombings as they did in the past,” added Mr. Inji.

Ahmed Abdulle Inji, emphasized that these operations against Al Qaeda-linked Al shabab group will continue until to insure the overall security situation of the central town of Beledweyne, as he put it.

On December 31, 2011, the Transitional Federal Government retook control of Beledweyne from the Al-Shabaab militants.
