Somalia postpones crucial election talks

Qoor-Qoor landed in Dhusamareb late on Monday to renew his absenteeism term from the state leadership as per the constitution as he is supposed to return home after 45 days.

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The informal conference between the outgoing President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, and the regional state leaders that were due to kick off again in Afisyoni on Tuesday has been postponed, according to a statement released by the Villa Somalia.

“The conference that was to take place in the capital is deferred,” reads the statement reasonably alluding to the absence of the Galmudug leader, Ahmed Abdi Kaariye alias (Qoor-Qoor) from the discussion who after paying a visit his state expected to land in the capital in a matter of time with the conference rescheduled for Wednesday to take place.

The discussion seems to get lingered with the UN and the US putting pressure on the two sides to press on the talks to resolve the long-standing conflicting issues over the elections.
Somalia has seen one of the worst election crises in history since 1991 with the outgoing President overstaying in power for nearly two months.

In a statement released on Monday, UNSOM has praised the leaders’ engagements in the talks describing their commitment as the defining moment of the ongoing election crisis being the ultimate steppingstone to finding a solution in the end.
