Somalia seeks to attract investors to ICT sector

Somali government said Monday it will organize a day-long forum on May 26 to showcase its investment opportunities in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

The Invest in Somalia ICT Platform is a joint initiative of the Somalia Investment Promotion Office at the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, the Ministry of Communications and Technology, and the National Communications Authority.

"The event targets potential investors to the ICT sector and will therefore provide a platform to showcase investment opportunities in Somalia," Somalia Investment Promotion Office said in a statement.

It said the virtual forum will highlight the current status of the sector as a whole, potential expansion, partnerships, and incentives for foreign investments.

The forum comes as Somalia has lined up various reforms to provide better framework for regulating the ICT sector.

The government has so far established the country's first-ever ICT body, the National Communications Authority, to help regulate the country's communications sector.
