TFG, AU Troops assault last Al-Shabab pockets in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Keydmedia) - Somali government forces backed by AMISOM soldiers have on Friday launched an attack against the last remaining Al-Shabab rebel bases in northern parts of Mogadishu, causing unconfirmed causalities.

According to the residents in Mogadishu’s Huriwa district told Keydmedia English News that most of the battle took place at Maslaha building in Suqa-Holaha Village, from where the militants have been able to stage several recent attacks.

The crackle of gun fire and the thud of artilleries used by the both warring sides during the combat could be heard this morning across Mogadishu. The command of African Union Mission in Somalia said the operation launched early Friday is meant to clear Al-Shabab rebels linked with Al-Qaeda from the northern fringes of the Somali capital.

It could not be immediately verify how many people, civilians or soldiers were killed in the battle. The move comes two weeks after TFG soldiers allied with Ethiopian troops inflicted a major defeat to Al-Shabab insurgent group, forcing the fighters out of Baidoa town, the country\
