TFG crackdown halts Bakaro Market Business activities

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Keydmedia)- A crackdown by the security forces under the control of somali goverment at Bakaaro marketplace on Monday saw the demolition of shops along the road, this operation disrupted normal business operations in the market, Keydmedia reports.

Khalif Ahmed Ereg head of that operation talked to the Media at the site of demolitions and he said they were able to open three roads within the market after the operations.

Khalif Ahmed Ereg also said today’s operations did not cause to any loss of property or life.The police commissioner added that this operation will not only be limited to Bakaara market but will be conducted in all markets across the 16 districts of Banadir province

Several structures were brought down by the police on what they called illegal structures although some business people whose sites were brought down were crying foul

Some of the victims whose businesses were demolished talked to Keydmedia English News from the site and they said it’s unfortunate that their business were destroyed, they said they are not against the idea of development but they would have loved a discussion foremost.

Bakaara market is the largest marketplace in Somalia; there are many structures which were built illegally on the sides of the road thus limiting access to the market by road and most of the times when there is fire outbreak it becomes difficult to bring in emergency services but for now this seems to have been solved.
