Mahad Ahmed Elmi, director of Capital Voice Radio, was killed at 7:30 in the morning on 11th August, 2007 heading to his station by armed men with pistols.

Many journalists had taken part his funeral and he was buried at Barakat Cemetery in the capital of Mogadishu, but when his colleagues and participants returned from his burier a roadside bomb exploded and killed head of Horn Afrik Radio Ali Iman Sharma’arke and wounded other journalists like Sahal Abdule, photographer of Reuters and Falastin Ahmed Iman of Horn Afrik staff.

This was the first assassination that was targeted to the journalists in the capital of Mogadishu who were working hard conditions in the country and this led journalists to flee from the capital to the neighboring countries and in Europe where they are refugees now because of the shocking events that they set their eyes on.

There were many other journalists killed and injured consecutively in the war-torn city of Mogadishu and some injuries still feel pain from the past events, and others always receive threats from Islamist fighters against the transitional government backed by the African union peacekeeping forces.

These are grievous events which all Somali journalists remember and won’t forget weather they are in the country or in abroad.

We Keydmedia.net staff are very much concerned about the conditions that current journalists working in Somali and we hope the victims for quick recovery and the dead ones rest their soul in the paradise. Aamin.
