Where Somali is heading after Farmajo’s term extension?

MOGADISHU, Somalia - After leading the country to the path of uncertainty, the outgoing President has finally taken one further step to stay in power following parliamentary session that gave him a two-year-term mandate to remain in office until 2022 that will surely undermine the progress made towards holding peaceful and inclusive election to take place in the country.

Farmaajo has deliberately withdrawn from the meeting he had with the regional leaders including Jubbaland and Puntland leaders before pronouncing it failed through the voice of his acting Minister of Information and Tourism.

The extension made by the parliament will nullify the Indirect-Electoral Committee nominated by PM Rooble late last year and will be replaced by the Independent-Committee of National Election spearheaded by Halima Yarey.

He is believed to use his extension term as a tool by which he will have to denounce any conference he should have with the regional leaders or otherwise decline to attend in the near future as the organized poll talks between him and state leaders will end futile.

The Union of Candidates who for a long time have been warning of the extension will be expected to eventually retaliate in response to his action by possibly declaring an interim president of their own.
