Eritrea trained 5,000 soldiers from Somalia whose training caused a political debate in the country during the last year's electioneering period.
The troops trained in Eritrea have an estimated 5,000 soldiers who will begin to execute their duties to protect the nation in the coming weeks as Al-Shabaab suffered defeats in recent months.

The expenses of the training were initially promised by Qatar but when Farmajo was defeated in the May 15 election, Doha refused to pay the money, as its close ally has vacated Villa Somalia.
