A top court official says Hodon DC’s killing was “deliberate”

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A top court official says that Hodon district commissioner Abdihakim Dhegajun faced a "deliberate" assassination at the hands of Somali soldiers in the first report on the DC’s death.

Speaking to the state-run media, General Abdullahi Buulle Kamey said an inquiry team has concluded the murder was intentional and the court will begin hearing the case against convicted Somali soldiers.

The finding contradicts earlier assertions by the Somali government that Dhegajun's death at a security checkpoint in Howlwadag district at midnight on Jan 21, 2021, was accidental.

The DC was shot dead hours after returning from Turkey, where he underwent medical treatment after sustaining wounds in a roadside bomb blast that targeted him in Mogadishu in November 2020.

The outgoing Farmajo administration covered up the murder of senior officials, including the mayor of Mogadishu Eng Yarisow who was killed by a blind female suicide bomber at his office in July 2019.
