MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala, has announced that 88 Al-Shabaab members were killed in a military offensive in southern Somalia.

Speaking to the reporters in Mogadishu on Thursday, Al-Adala said that the operation took place in the village of Juhaay under the Gullane town of ​​the Middle Shabelle region.

Minister Al-Adala said that the operation included a ground attack and aerial bombardment carried out by the national army receiving support from foreign forces believed to be Americans.

32 of the bodies of Al-Shabaab fighters killed in the operation have been identified, the rest of their bodies could not be identified, and they were bombed in an isolated forest area where they were gathering," said the minister.

He also mentioned that the Somali government forces have seized weapons and military equipment belonging to the Al-Shabaab as the army took control of Juhaay area near the Adan Yabal district.

Adan Yabal which served as Al-Shabaab's headquarters in the Middle Shabelle region fell to the Somali army and local clan militia a week ago. It lies 245 km north of the country's capital.
