China sends ship carrying aid to starved people in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barra received the Chinese Ambassador Fei Shengchao in his office in the state house in Mogadishu on Tuesday morning.

According to the PM's office, both sides discussed bilateral relations between Somalia and China as well as how Beijing can support the Horn of Africa country in the drought response.

The Prime minister has thanked the Chinese Government for its support of the Somali people, at a time they are experiencing a drought that has affected 7.8 million people, half of the population. 

Ambassador Fei Shengchao indicated that China will play a major role in the relief efforts, and confirmed that a ship will arrive at Mogadishu port to deliver food aid meant to the suffering people.

Somalia is one of the Horn of Africa countries facing a humanitarian crisis, with more than one million people displaced by the drought who are in the IDP camps around the big cities with no help.
