Dozens of militants killed in ongoing SNA operations

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali national army [SNA] forces have killed at least 50 Al-Shabaab militants on Sunday in an ongoing intense military operation in the south of the country, a top official said.

General Odowa Yusuf Rage, the chief of SNA has confirmed to the state media that the troops have intensified an onslaught to flush out the al-Qaida-allied terror group in Middle Shabelle province.

Rage who led the latest anti-al-Shabaab push added that the operation on Saturday morning was conducted in Gal Laba-Bashir and Harare villages near El-Garas town, where terrorists were hiding.

He said the terrorists have suffered huge losses during the massive operation in which government troops have successfully liberated several key villages from Al-Shabaab.

In recent days, Somali forces in the Middle Shabelle region stepped up operations against Al-Shabaab in the latest attempt to prevent the group from conducting ambushes and planting landmines on the roads.
