MOGADISHU, Somalia - Egypt on Sunday dispatched two military planes carrying aid to Somalia following an order by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
According to the Egyptian presidency, the aid package was meant to "help ease the burden on the brotherly Somali people."
Alongside the aid package, the Egyptian military also sent two medical teams to secure the medical evacuation of Somalia army personnel injured in terrorist attacks.
The evacuated troops will receive treatment at the Egyptian Armed Forces hospitals.
"The Medical Services Department has immediately raised the alert level in the hospitals to which the injured were transferred by fully-equipped ambulance and where they are provided with comprehensive medical care," the statement by the Egyptian presidency reads.
"This aid is an affirmation of the deep-rooted historical ties binding Egypt and Somalia. It also reflects Egypt's leading role and support for African countries when facing hardships and challenges," it added.
