Fahad Yasin in cronyism after appointing his friend to NISA deputy head

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The head of Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] Fahad Yasin has named Abas Ya'qub as his deputy four days after Abdulahi Kulane, NISA's HR director was relieved of his duties by the Prime Minister of the country Mohamed Hussein Roble.

Ya'qub was an influential figure within NISA as he served as the chief of finance, administration, and technology at the spy agency, close to Yasin, according to the sources.

Since Fahad Yasin assumed office in 2019, Ya'qub has been a close friend of the NISA boss. He is likely to replace the current Intelligence head who wants to run for a parliamentary seat in the coming election.

Seemingly, Fahad plans to maintain his influence in NISA by appointing his close associates to top positions. The right-hand man of Farmajo is the main suspect behind the abduction of Ikran Tahlil, a senior intelligence female officer who went missing in June 2016.
