Farmajo flies to Uganda for Museveni’s inauguration

A statement from the Somali presidency said Farmajo would hold sideline meetings with Museveni and other African leaders attending the inauguration to discuss Somalia's relations with their respective countries.

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The outgoing Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has left the country on Tuesday morning for Kampala, Uganda to attend the inauguration of  President Yoweri Museveni.

A statement from the Somali presidency said Farmajo would hold sideline meetings with Museveni and other African leaders attending the inauguration to discuss Somalia's relations with their respective countries.

Farmajo is accompanied by Minister of Planning, Jamal Mohamed Hassan, First Lady Seynab Abdi Moalim, Presidential Advisers, and officials from the Somali government.

Uganda is one of the troop-contributing East African countries to the African Union Mission in Somalia known as [AMISOM] helping the country in the fight against Al-Shabaab since 2007.

Museveni won the presidential election for the sixth time in January with 58% of the vote, but his rival opposition candidate Bobi Wine, who received 34% of the vote, accused him of rigging the vote.

Museveni, 76, has ruled Uganda since 1986, becoming one of the longest-serving leaders in the African Continent who are clinging to the power.
