Farmajo under pressure to give up the term extension

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The outgoing President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has held a closed-door conference in Afisyoni with the representatives of the international community on Saturday following the extension term passed by the Lower House chamber of Parliament that allows him to stay in office for two years.

Reliable information obtained exclusively by KON indicated that the incumbent has been pressed to give up the extension term and revive talks with the regional leaders to resolve the electoral standoff.

The extension move has sparked outrage and condemnations from the international community including the US, UK, EU, and UN as well as AU with the Biden administration threatened to place sanctions on Farmajo other figures deemed as spoilers of Somalia's peace and stability.

However, the outgoing President was asked to forget the term extension and remain in power for four months as a technical extension to allow the elections to happen in a peaceful and inclusive manner.
