Geelle: Farmajo could leave the office by other means rather than an election

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The former Information Minister, Dahir Mohamud Gelle, and the current presidential candidate has accused the outgoing President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo of being a spoiler who doesn’t care about the country's stability after creating political uncertainty.

“It goes without saying that the outgoing President will never stay in power through the barrel of the guns,” he said – highlighting that the incumbent has refused almost every suggestion and recommendation made in the process of building political stability.

And that has left him to ask himself: how far will the country recover from his setback?! – a concern similarly shared by the international community.

According to Geelle, the outgoing President wants to keep the country’s fate in ransom and history now tells that the end of every authoritarian is chaos and national disaster and this country is no longer adopting the multi-party system.

“The only way forward from the current political stalemate and deadlock surrounding holding peaceful election based on inclusiveness is to adhere to the constitution and lead by example, and that seems to bother him because it can be deadly to compete with him in such a way that he spares no one; that is the Farmaajo who is determined to conquer this nation by force,” Geelle argued.
