Heavy fighting erupts near Jowhar amid flood crisis

MOGADISHU, Somalia -- Heavy fighting between Hirshabelle armed forces and militiamen known as (Ma-awisley) broke out in the vicinity of Jowhar, the regional capital of Middle Shabelle earlier today.

The war started with an offensive carried out by the militia on a control base in the western part of Hirshabelle capital, Jowhar as the fighting has taken a toll. 

There are reports of casualties including the deaths of security guards for regional president and the governor of Midle Shabelle as several others were wounded. 

The fighting erupted following the apprehension of some of the leading figures of the Ma-awisley militias who took a raid on the state’s control to set their men free.
