Int’l partners hail Baidoa election talks outcome

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The international partners of Somalia say they welcome the outcome of the talks held in Baidoa city by representatives from the Federal Government and the Federal Member States.

The joint Technical Committee identified technical solutions to the contentious issues that delayed the country’s parliamentary and presidential elections slated for December 2020.

In a statement, the foreign diplomatic missions based in Mogadishu also hailed the Committee’s call for the Federal Government and Federal Member State leaders to meet on Thursday, 18th February.

Somali leaders have been urged to conclude the Committee’s work so that the elections can be organized as a matter of national priority.

Somalia missed two deadlines to hold its elections due to the deadlock over the process that marred by corruption after Farmajo whose mandate ended on February 8 included spy agents and civil servants.

The country stands now at electoral crossroads with no immediate solution in sight as leaders at loggerheads over the Gedo issue, Somaliland electoral committee, and biased poll body.
