Kenya responded with ban on Somali flights

MOGADISHU, Somalia - In response to the statement issued by the Somali Aviation Authority in which they pronounced that the transportation of Khat from Kenya is not illegal but a violation of Somali Airspace, Kenya has made a surprise reciprocation.

The Nairobi administration has suspended the flights it had with Mogadishu calling on those traveling agencies based in Kenya who facilitate visas for Somalis back home to discontinue providing these services.

“There will be no flight from Somalia or vice versa until August,” reads the released statement citing the uncertainty of the diplomatic ties they had with the Horn of Africa nation," reads the statement in part.

The relationship between Somalia and Kenya strained five months ago but the two countries this week declared the restoration of their ties, it is unclear why Kenya decided to halt flights.

The Somalia government has previously announced that the restoration of the Kenya-Somali relationship is solely based on diplomatic ties.
